AFA 2009 – Highlights
Anime Festival Asia 2009 just ended it’s run in Singapore. It was pretty hectic and all, and it’s really fun when you are with like-minded peeps.
Merchandise-wise it’s rather poor in terms of selection(my wallet is safe!), but the festival more than make up for it with the events and especially the cosplayers.
I regret not going after the cosplayers on day 1! Judging by some other blogs,(Kodomut, RadiantDreamer, Zh3us, Ederuferuto, etc.), there were some nice cosplays on day 1.
The pics below would be mostly on Cosplays, cos there’s nothing exclusive about the figures, and I’m sure there’s better shots of them floating around in the intrawebs. =)
People & Stuff
All the priority ticket holders just raring to go.
Drossel is really popular. I wonder if this is the 3rd or 4th production run for this figma.
Wall of Posters, by odex I think… Which makes me sad. odex isn’t exactly that shining beacon of quality when it comes to their DVDs.
The Tokyo Figure Show. You can see that it’s extremely popular with the Con attendees.
It just caught my eye. Pretty elaborate for a recycling bin.
Dolls
I was told by her owner that she’s from a H game but really, who cares? =)
A doll being displayed at a merchandiser’s booth, based somewhere in Liang Court. Remind me to get the shop name.
As you can tell by now, I have this thing for Dolls.
As I was busy snapping pictures of the dolls, I literally bumped right into Danny, who happened to visit the said doll merchandiser. You can see the smiles on the booth staff. They can’t wait to drag him into the stall ;P

This is some of the collections that’s at the Tokyo Figure Show corner(there’s also a figure show by Bandai). I love figures =)

Mirai-chan. She was really difficult capture. A few dozen shots, yield only one passable shot. Need more training. =\

Following up we have… Saber… Riding a lion?
And Rider doing a wheelie. Nendos are in their element, and all’s well with the world.

Cosplayers
Most of the cosplay action happens outside the main exhibition area. Here’s an aerial shot. Just look at the sheer amount of humans!
First up we have Kaname as Cloud -cues all the swooning fangirls- ;P
Witchblade. It’s kinda sad that they didn’t get any awards at the cosplay competition. They really deserve at least best costume.
Sheryl from Macross Frontier?
Don’t think she’s cosplaying, but that’s a rather nice get up. Gomen!
Very nice costume and in character, even though I’ve no idea what’s it about. Bonus point for attracting a little girl to join her =)
No idea who they are dressing up as. Maybe just goth lolis? I have this trigger weakness for frilly clothes. Forgive me.
Misa from Death Note. Quite surprised to see that no one noticed her though. She was just sitting quietly at a corner when I approached her.
Again, no idea. Mad Props for the attention to details though. =)
Beatrice, from Umineko no Naku Koro ni. Check out the details on her skirt! I love stuff by 7th Expansion. =)

Surprise! High School of the Dead. No idea which character though. Gomen.
Nope no idea. But she and her partner(following photo) had such great chemistry. It was fun watching them having fun posing for the cameras. =)

Shugo Chara! Lovely, too bad mahou shoujos don’t really interest me though. =x
The Scout! From Team Fortress 2. He and the Heavy(next image) looked pretty left out when I found them though. I guess not too many people are into TF2 though.
The Heavy. One of my favourite character classes in TF2(because I can’t shoot for nuts when I’m running around as a Scout). The Heavy usually goes around with a trademark chaingun, so I asked the cosplayer about it.
me: Hey man, you are a Heavy. Where’s that trademark chaingun?
cosplayer: Couldn’t get it ready in time for AFA man. Sorry about that.
me: Awww, what a waste!

@Ederuferuto – thanks! but all i did was take alot of images, then sift through them for gems. I think I totalled like 490++ images over 2 days. Took me a while to sift through them. =x

man guess a lot of dmg has been dealt transporting figures… even shiki’s blade is gone!
dun worry about the results, even kaname scored witchblade for grand prize and indonesia for special prize… it was the other judges fault! haha

I think Misa was the best cosplayer! We should all cosplay for shits and giggles sometimes. Did you buy anymore Figma? o.o
@kisacake – is that just Death Note talking? ;P anyway, ya… I’ve been adding to my collection, as you can see from my earlier posts ;P as for just cosplaying for fun, our circle ain’t really that into the scene… doubt you can grab anyone to join you though =x
